Subframe mounts 1988-560SL

Just received the subframe mount replacement kit. As I am doing a pre-job review of the instructions and looking under the car with front wheels removed - I am concerned with the transmission cooling lines attached to the radiator. Should I detach these lines prior to lowering the subframe??? Looks like they may get hung up if I don't. Has anyone experienced this when doing this job? (The transmission lines are not mentioned in the instruction book) I am looking forward to doing this job myself and hope to get all my ducks in a row prior turning the wrenches.

Transmission lines should be ok

Your transmission cooler lines are connected to the radiator with a flexible rubber hose. This is usually enough to allow adequate movement without removing them. Of course, keep an eye on them when you lowering the subframe. By all means if you suspect a problem then just disconnect at the radiator (placing drip pan underneath).

I completed this subframe mount replacement last weekend without problems. The instructions were great and helped a lot. To be sure that I did not put undue tension on the transmission line, I disconnected the flex line from the radiator. I also disconnected the low pressure refrigerant line bracket from the inner fender liner to allow it to flex when the subframe was dropped down. I was working alone so I also found it easier to disconnect the shocks from below - you just need to position the jack with a spacer at the outside end of the A-frame to get enough lift to compress the suspension. A week prior to this work, I squirted all the bolt threads with penetrating oil. Everything came apart with ease. Overall, a very satisfying experience - Thanks Kent!
