300SD - Ok Just what brakes do I have?

Submitted by DougTx on 20 June 2008 - 7:08am.
I have an 84 300SD (126) and have a question. My shop that is helping me with my car said that my brakes work great (and they do) but the pads are worn. I have read here and in other helpful forums that it can be hard to tell whick brakes your car has (ATE,Bendix etc). Is there a way I can tell what brakes I have so I can order the right replacement pads. I am all fired up now and want to do that on my own also. Thanks in advance guys, Doug in Dallas P.S. I got the new primer pump and it was a super easy install. It works really great and does not leak. Thanks again for that.

The key is in the pin

Easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the long metal pins that hold the brake pads in place. The inboard ends of the Bendix pins have a small wire clip inserted through the tip to keep the pins from backing out. The ATE pins do not have that clip (they use an expansion spring on the head of the pin to hold it in place)

Doug 1984 300SD I have the pins... also I lucked out. My Bendix calipers have the word Bendix on the caliper itself on the outside. Thanks for the help, Doug
