1985 300sd 30 mph max no power
I just purchased this car. It starts quickly and idles smoothly but has no power and will only go about 30 on flat ground. I removed exhaust pipe with the cat and muffler, thinking the cat was plugged, didnt help. the previous owner said the turbo got hot and caught the underhood insulation on fire but he got it out quickly and with the exception of 2 vacumn lines it didnt hurt anything. turbo area emits a highpressure air sound, not a turbo whistle,at idle and it gets louder under power. Check to see if anything is in air intakes,and elbow.Then remove primary filter and blow air back into tank to check for clogged screen.Test run.Second main filter might be plugged up.I have dumped fuel out of filter and rinsed with #2,then fill with clean fuel and install.Check again.If a little improvement you need filters,and remove tank screen and clean it with old toothbrush.
Check alda fitting on intake and alda side.Check lines to see if broke,but it should run more than 30 mph.Check rear brakes as they are bad to gum up.Feel wheels to see if hot.Then its brakes sticking.WD 40 clean pins,sliding areas (may have to use steel wool),install fresh pads.I press one piston in then clamp it,so I can press second piston with channel locks. Good luck. 126 diesels yahoo.groups.BEFORE doing any of this,check to see if turbo blades turn freely,and no play.If not Kent has some turbos.
