A few days ago, I used the steering box adjustment bolt, with the 6mm allen head in the center, and adjusted the steering on a friend's 82. This worked great, and I was able to eliminate 4 inches of slop in the steering. Today, I tried it on my sons 300d, and not only is the slop still there, but it has very sticky steering....if you turn the wheel to the curvature of the road, it will follow it. (Inertia will not bring it back to straight.) This makes it very hard to drive, and relatively unsafe as it's hard to predict how much to turn. He backed the bolt off, but there was no change at all. Any reason why this might happen? I am unfamiliar with even what the screw does.

Hi Lanend. Never worked on a 79 but own an 84 300D. It is always a good practice to mark the starting point of any adjustment screw so you can go back to that setting. From all the info I have gleaned, backing that screw out will take out a little play in the steering wheel. However all sources warn to never go to far with that particular adjustment screw.
