We have only seen one of these, and it came off a 150,000 mile 1977 240D. I am sure it would fit the 1978 and 1979 240D, but it would not be original. Study the pictures carefully. Note the different cap designs with long center bolt. BUPS
This is a very common failure item on the OM617 turbo diesel engines. There are two reasons why it bends or strips. 1) The original threaded adjusting rod is made of a VERY soft metal.
Now, you can put newer style "pencil glow plugs" in your early W123 300D 300CD and 300TD by following the instructions written by Kent Bergsma. Kent walks you through the process, explains some of the pitfalls, and winds up showing you the finished product. These are the instructions.
To read or download in a 2-up format. Kent will walk you through the steps of adjusting the valve clearances on your older 190D, 200D, 220D, 240D, 300D, 300CD, 300TD, and 300SD. This procedure should be done every 12,000 miles. Two special wrenches are required.
When replacing the pan or the gasket we recommend installing these new stainless hex bolts and washers. You can see the pans these will work on below.

This will be instructional information that you can not find anywhere else! The focus of the 25-minute video will be on removing and replacing the oil cooler thermostat once the oil filter housing is removed for a 1977 to 1985 engine ( excluding the 190D).
Want to find out if your oil cooler thermostat is working correctly? In this 22-minute video, Kent will take you through a test sequence that you can perform in your garage. Please note that this video DOES NOT include details of removing or replacing the oil filter housing.
For 300D, 300CD, 300TD, and 300SD built in those years. This thermostat has a very limited supply. You might want to purchase while still available. There is NO substitute.

In this 13-minute instructional video, Kent will walk you through the steps of inspecting and replacing the round throttle shaft bushing in your W123 turbo 300D, 300CD, or 300TD. Watch the YouTube video below for an introduction.
CONFIRMATION ALSO FITS ON W123 GASOLINE 230CE FIREWALL MOUNT! We are currently the only good source to replace your aging or broken throttle linkage ball-bushing on your later W123 diesels.
Removing the front rubber engine mounts requires getting under the car and going up inside a hole in the subframe to remove the main bolt. And it can be a bear! I don't know who they hired to tighten these at the factory, but he must have been a brute.

This custom-made thin head wrench by Kent Bergsma can save the day and your pocketbook. It is very important that you hold the fitting base on the oil cooler when removing the oil cooler hoses. A regular 22mm wrench is almost always too thick and can also cause damage.
This is a great solution to what is sometimes a nagging problem. This heavy duty and flexible and adjustable plastic spacer can be put on the top or bottom radiator to prevent chafing in and area where it might come in contact the the engine or the radiator.
Why is this so important? It is primarily due to the age of these cars now and the fact that lurking problems can be hidden from visual inspection. There is not ONE diesel that Kent has looked at in the last five years that does not need this service! Even ones with under 150,000 original miles.
Version 4 update 2/22: New color and style but still does the same job. This is one of the key tools you will need to remove stubborn pre chambers from the cylinder head of your old diesel engine.

This video ONLY covers some of Kent's "tips and tricks" on installing a harmonic balancer back onto the front of the crankshaft on an old Mercedes engine. The specific procedure was filmed while doing a front crank seal replacement on a 1983 240D.
We starting using some of these to plug brake lines while changing out calipers. Then we started using them on fuel and oil hoses. Now we are using them all over the place and keep finding new uses for them on a monthly basis. These are a MUST HAVE! Watch the video below to become a believer!

When doing a compression test you must properly seal the inner surface of the pre-chamber with the fuel injector hole adapter. Copper washers work the best for this to ensure a 100 percent seal. Do not use the engine's heat shield washers.
This 25-minute video is a supplement to Kent's other instructions on replacing diesel engine front crank seals. It is offered free of charge with one of the seal replacement kits.
In this video Kent will share some set up tips as well as explain what is in the compression tester and an overview of how it is used.
