PLEASE NOTE: This should be used in conjunction with our modulator pressure test kit (see below). It can be unhealthy for your transmission to just "guess by feel" where the T-pin should be turned.

This is an improved factory upgrade for the older 722.3 transmission valve body up through 1990. Later models were revised and this upgrade is not required. The accumulator parts you will install are Genuine Mercedes.
In Part 7 of this transmission rebuild training class, Kent will prep the drums for reassembly with the new seals. Installation of the piston in the K1 drum can be particularly challenging.

Three seals in each drum need to be replaced. Only the bottom "hidden" drum seals in Viton are included.

The B1 piston assembly is not easy to remove and then reinstall. Because of the length of the two big springs behind the cover, it takes a tool that has a lengthy throw.
We modified this slide hammer puller set in our shop so it will work in removing two key components in the 722.3 and 722.4 automatic transmissions. Getting the B2 piston and sleeve out of the case can be a real bear without this tool. With it, it comes out quickly and easily.
You will need a 12-point DEEP socket. That is the only thing that will work. Most impact sockets are six-sided. The best way to remove this nut is with a big impact wrench with the transmission locked in park. So you will need a quality heavy-duty socket. This one is made in the U.S.A.
Take a very close look at the picture. These are all the gaskets and seals you will need to replace if you open up your 722.3 transmission that was produced from 1981 to 1990 for all 6 and 8-cylinder passenger cars that had a displacement of 3.0 liters or more.
What a surprise when you find the early W221 and early W212 4matics don't have a fill plug in the front differential! The factory manual instructs removing the right front axle to fill and check the level. What??

If you want to get as much of the old transmission fluid out of the valve body, torque converter, oil cooler, and lines, then you will need to do more than just drain the pan and the torque converter ( if it even has a drain plug). Watch the video below for more details.
Make sure this is the correct kit for your Mercedes BEFORE ordering. We have an upgrade kit for the earlier transmission that includes a new pan, but when servicing the later 722.9, you do not need to replace the pan.
Often not done, but you will regret not adding this correct SACHS grease to you clutch input shaft splines! Regular grease with not stand up over time.
A high quality bearing. It is a good idea to replace this anytime you have the transmission. Remember it spins a lot!

Very common wear item due to aging rubber. Can be easily installed by putting a piece of plywood on the bottom of the transmission pan and use a floor jack to lightly jack up the back of the transmission to replace the mount.

For ALL 2003 to 2010 7-Speed automatic transmissions( early 722.9 WITHOUT option code A89 indicating reduced friction). These are the 7G transmissions that use the red fluid with the shallower transmission pan. This is a complete kit for your transmission 40K service, not including the fluid.

Inspect for adjustment and tension. If you disconnect the cable from the throttle linkage and there is no spring back pressure then the cable is broken.
New o-ring seal installed.
These transmission pans get "out of shape" due to over-torquing the bolts. That crushes the stops (see below), and when that happens, it is very hard to get the pan seal not to leak. Your best option if you are doing a transmission service is to replace the pan.

Removing the valve body is not difficult, but it is fraught with risk. It is easy to damage the conductor plate if not removed properly, and that can be a very expensive mistake.
If you are planning to remove your 722.9 conductor plate for inspection or repair, you will want to take the time to thoroughly clean the plate, the valve body, and the solenoids. No cleaning agents or foreign chemicals should be used.
To prevent potential fluid weeping on the end of this pipe fitting that attaches to the right side of the transmission, you might want to replace these o-rings if you end up removing the pipe during your 722.9 transmission service.
Since there are no dipsticks on these transmissions, the DIY way to check fluid level is from under the car with a touch-free thermometer to measure the heat of the transmission fluid BEFORE setting the correct level. Instructions are included with my full 722.9 transmission fill kit.
