When you remove the old sunroof panel (1985 and older) from you Benz you will probably notice that the edges of the vinyl have come loose from the metal strapping. You will allow notice just how dirty it is once you have it out of the car and into the light.
In this video, I will go over the procedure of removing and replacing the level control valve in your older Mercedes with Airmatic suspension. The work here will be performed on a 2000 W220 S500. Other models may have the valve located in a different position with slightly different mounting.

Manual sunroofs can have problems too. Just like their electrically operated counterparts, most often they will fail due to lack of lubrication. The number one failure point is a broken T handle. Number two is failure of the roof to close properly due to damaged felt feet and plastic slides.
If you have a W116 or W126 300SD or a turbo 1981 to 1985 5 cylinder W123 Diesel you must pay attention to your oil cooler hoses. If one of these hoses fail you will destroy the engine unless you are in the habit of looking at your oil pressure gauge every 5 minutes while driving.

Replacing your oil cooler lines / hoses is a very important maintenance item on your older Mercedes diesel. Getting them on and off though is a different matter!

If your key tumbler fails you will have to drill out your ignition lock to even move your car. When this happens you are better off buying a complete new assembly. You won't even be able to get the black cover cap off, or your old tumbler out.

Any time you are removing and replacing your fuel injectors you will need to change the return hose and the heat shield crush washers. If you don’t, you will have leaking hoses and possible compression leaks at the injector nozzles.
