1986 to 1993 126 and 124 Plastic Headlight Door Removal and Replacement - On Demand Video

Want to replace that ugly or cracked head light surround!

Starting in the U.S. model year 1986, the headlights were changed on the W126 models. You could no longer just unscrew some plastic knobs to get the headlight door (plastic surround) off. This new style plastic door became the cover for the fog light as well. This same design was included in the W124 chassis and used up through 1993.

126 Headlight Removal - On Demand Video Instruction

Product Details

Kent will walk you through the steps to replace the headlight doors on your own Benz using simple hand tools. This video will cover the following:

  • Tools needed
  • Removing the side marker (126 chassis)
  • 124 chassis side marker lens removal explained but not shown
  • Removing the headlight wiper arm (if applicable)
  • Removing the lower headlight valence
  • Removing the old plastic door surround
  • Warning - you may want to replace both for cosmetics reasons
  • Put cover and side marker on in reverse order (actual steps not shown)

This video was filmed replacing the headlight door on a 1990 W126 300SEL. The procedures may be slightly different on the W124 chassis - particularly removal of the side marker lens. Kent explains the difference but does not actually show it. The procedure shown is done without removing the headlight assembly from the car.

PLEASE NOTE: This procedure only applies to those years and chassis mentioned. This would include the 420SEL, 560SEL, 300SE, 300SEL, 300SDL, 350SDL, 300E, 260E, 300CE, 300TE, E300D. Does not apply to 1994 and 1995 models as these head lights were all glass in the face.

NOTE: No instructions are included on complete removal or replacement of the headlight, foglight or headlight “bucket” assembly.

Total run time: 6:40
