In the forty plus years that I've been working on old cars, I have tried everything to patch holes in mufflers and exhaust pipes. We are talking magic muffler tape that you can purchase at any auto parts store. We are talking sheet aluminum and hose clamps. We are talking special muffler paste wrapped with aluminum tape. I've tried them all. I finally found success a few years ago when I discovered Miracle Paint.

I've been absolutely amazed at how well this product works, particularly on exhaust systems. (NOTE: It will not work on exhaust manifolds or header pipes close to the engine. Just gets too hot. But it does work well on center and rear mufflers and pipes in between ) When have you ever found any paint that will actually stick to a rusty exhaust pipe let alone hold a patch on a muffler??? When Miracle Paint is combined with heavy mesh fiberglass cloth it makes an amazing repair (this of course providing that the entire muffler is not completely rusted out). In many cases on the older diesel mufflers you may have just a few small holes in the bottom or the rear of the muffler caused by water condensation. The repair is accomplished by first cleaning and roughing up the affected area with heavy sand paper. Then two to three overlapping layers of heavy fiber glass mesh are applied with heavy coats of Miracle Paint to provide a super tough bond. You must let it set for a full 24 hours or longer if temp is below 50 degrees F. I've actually seen cars that I've repaired over five years ago come back into my shop and upon putting the car on the lift - I've been amazed that the muffler patch is still in place. Of course the rest of the exhaust system may be falling off the car but not the area that was repaired with Miracle Paint.
