"Core Support" location on W126

I bought an FM10 water separator filter for my 1982 300SD, and in the instructions it suggests that I mount it to the left front "core support" bracket. After surveying for a spell, I was unable to locate this bracket in the engine compartment. Can anyone point me, via other reference points, to this bracket? Thanks in advance, tbird

Do you have our illustrated instruction sheet. It shows the core support and where to mount it.

Core Support Bracket

I'm a relative newbie, and though I do indeed have the pictures from the instructions, the core support mounting picture is very small and I'm not really sure what I'm looking at. I know there's a support bracket for the radiator, but this is quite a distance away from the fuel lines in an awkward place. It would be very helpful to have the location indicated by spatial location and reference points (i.e. directly beneath a particular, recognizable part). Any further direction? Thanks, tbird

Core Support location

The core support bracket or brace runs from the front corner of one front fender over to the corner of the other fender. It serves a multiple function of supporting your headlights, radiator, a/c condensor, aux electric fan and keeps your hood closed.

You can mount the FM 10 anywhere you like but the back lip of the core support may be the only practical place you can mount it without having to make a special bracket. If you want to mount it somewhere else just get some light weight aluminum plate and bar stock and fabricate a custom bracket to mount the filter vertically. Aluminum works best because it is easy to drill, bend and cut with a hacksaw.
