I have a 1976 300D I love this car. Got it for $1200 and ZERO major complaints and the 28mpg is awesome I am hoping to get this over 30mpg Anyway. 2 things. First I have a slightly leaky valve cover. I plan to repair this and wondered what else I should do while the cover is off ? Figure might as well do it all at once. Second. I have a Vac Leak - since I got the car I could "hear" the vac bottle leaking (very annoying but I got used to it) I think it has failed almost completely now. My brakes lost there power assist. they work fine but take significant force to operate they feel like manual brakes now. My Cruise control stopped working and the engine has trouble shutting itself off. Most time I just give it a little gas after removing the key and it shuts off. This all happened in the last 3 weeks oh and the vac noise is gone now (thats what makes me think it just stopped working ??) Suggestions? how do I even begin to track all this down? Where do I find a map of where all these tubes are start to finish so I can start replacing them. (I figure they are 20+ years old might as well just put in new tubes) I do not care about the door locks just the cruise brakes and engine stop and anything else critical. Another minor issue. I have the transmission floor shifter bushing issue. HOW hard is this ? is it something I can do myself with minimal experience at this? I have massive hands so not good in tight spaces :-) Right now I Just make sure its locked in place when I stop and or I toss a wheel chuck under the wheel if I am concerned about my parking angle. It has never tried to go anywhere while I was not in it yet but I do not want to take the chance. The kit is only $16.50 but I am concerned over the COST to install it if I can not do it myself. :-) Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Its got about 120k on the odo I have had it for a year now with no major problems. My next task it to try and revive the AC :-) Any other suggestions for "check this" and make sure its ok kind of things ? any help would be greatly appreciated. Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/
