'86 190e wiper switch stuck in on position, radio on, unless turned off manually

This morning I got in the my 190e and the radio was on, started OK, thought battery might be dead. Then turned on wipers, soon after smelled burning rubber, thought it might be coming from a construction site, only to find I could not turn off my wipers at the control stick-they are still on. It will not rotate, high beams work fine on and off, so do turn signals. So I have an electrical problem, I'll remove the cover to access the wiper, turn switch, no doubt, I'll see some major melt down there. Has anyone else had electrical problems with their 190e. I've just been driving this one for a week, I purchased it from a dealer with 97K. Where else should I be looking for problems that perhaps resulted in this issue I have this morning? Thanks a lot for any assistance or experience you've had with electrical problems with this model. Bill
