Long term car storage cklist

I am planning on storing my 1984 300td for about a year. Any suggestions on preparation for storage (diesel stabilizer etc.) Thanks! Mike

Mike, will you be storing the car in a warm dry climate or will it be wet and damp. This will make a difference on how you approach preparation. Kent

Kent, This is Northern New York, so very cold and occaisonally damp. Mike

Mike, Unless you are storing in a warm garage your biggest concern will be corrosion - inside engine, brakes, fuel system, cooling system, in and around the engine compartente, etc. Change ALL your fluids before storage. Use a high quality low moisture absorbing DOT 4 brake fluid. Flush your cooling system and use Mercedes Benz coolant. Change engine and trans fluid. Run the engine for about an hour with a high concentrate fuel lubrication additive (like our Stanadyne product) to protect the fuel pump. Make sure there is NO biodiesel or vegetable oil in the tank or anywhere in the fuel system. Straight diesel only. Then fill the tank and put in fuel stabilizer. Spray the engine down with a good spray lubricant like LDS ( I don't like WD 40) and finally store the car up on jack stands or blocks. Good luck, Kent
