Hi Ben, due to the low power output of the 18th century 240D :-) we don't recommend trying to adapt a higher amp output alternator to your engine. The best improvement you can make for your car is to install an Optima Red Top Battery. See our tips section. It will hold a stronger charge for longer periods of time and that will help stabilize flunctuations on your current demands. Also recommend you install a new voltage regulator if you have not done so already.

Thanks Kent. Appreciate it! I bought the re-do kit for the instrument cluster light/rheostat yesterday along with the dvd and the puller tool. So, you got me for a hundred yesterday! (Money well spent!) What's your take on running without the AC belt. For obvious reasons this is good regarding power take off but I'm getting belt noise, espeically at start-up. Then again, I just got this car to Detroit from Orange County, California and this Cali girl ain't used to this cold tundra crap! Best, Ben

V-belts

Biggest cause of belt squeal on your 240D is a loose or worn alternator belt. If the belt is slipping under alternator load you won't be getting a good charge to your battery. Grab a hold of the alternator fan at pulley and see if you can turn it by hand (engine not running of course :-)). If you can the belt is not tight enough.
