81 300D hood latch emergency open?

Hi There, any hints on open opening the hood latch on a w123 (1981 300d) my mechanic charged me plenty to install a new cable and I am beginning to doubt that it was stretched and/or adjusted properly. Thanks, Dave

Options to get 123 hood open

If the hood cable is not adjusted properly you will need to remove the lever from the side kick panel under the dash. Then pull out on the cable as far as you can to get the hood open. If it does not release it may mean the cable is not attached or is broken. Then you will have to cut a hole in the grill to get to the latch mechanism to release it manually.

Thanks Kent, I wound up going back to the guy that I originally paid to install the cable. Turns out that everything was in place and working but the upper part of the latch assembly that attaches to the hood was misaligned and the hook would not release. With that re-aligned I was back in business.
