Kent, this car has been plagued with the same problem as long as we have owned it. (about ten years) I have done new points and plugs several times and the car has run better but it still will go through occasional fits of dieing in the road and not restarting. It has remained dead for several days and begun running again weather I have done anything to it or not. It has dropped in its tracks within 24 hrs of a complete tune up and it has gone 20K without a hiccup.
It has spent over a month at our mechanic's shop for testing, in the past to no avail. Just recently it has been acting up again and I finally broke down and bought a new relay and two Walbro fuel pumps(I wanted the Meyles that you sell but they were out of stock)because my mechanic said they were old off brand pierburgs and were probably causing the problem. The new pumps shut off quicker when I first turn the Ignition key and the car runs more solidly and has more W.O.T. power but within 24 hours it died again. This time I drove it when it was misbehaving and I found that if I got under the hood and jiggled and wiggled the wires and plugs that are associated with the ignition the car would start again and run for a few blocks. I have had other makes of cars with ECM units that controlled spark production. When they started to go bad the intermittent failure of the unit would tell it was time for a new ECM. Does the 300TE has a unit of this type? Do the problems I am describing fit this problem? When the car dies it is instantaneous. Sometimes it will cut off recover and cut off again but there is never any stumble the engine is off or on.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks, Michael
