G wagon W460 1980 diesel

I recently purchased a 1980 G wagon with a 5-cyl. turbo diesel engine. But this car is missing the oil pressure gauge; it is apparently a conversion from gas to diesel engine, not done very professionally.
I purchased the car with a broken engine and installed a new one already, but want to add an oil-pressure gauge.
Any suggestion where to find one that might fit?

Which type oil pressure connection?

Depends where the engine came from. Some 617 turbo engines had pressure hose feeds and others had electrical sending units. You will have to determine that first and then find a aftermarket gauge that you can hook up. May take some research on your part as I dont know of any direct connect gauges.

The new engine does have the pressure hose, which I salvaged from parts, but no gauge.
I guess the only way I can fit in an aftermarket unit is to come up with an adapter for a new hose fitting to the engine side of it.

Adapting to original pressure line

If you have the original black oil pressure plastic line I would recommend you connect a brass barbed fitting to it that has a 1/4 inch NPT female fitting (universal). Then you can find an aftermarket oil pressure gauge to connect. Heat the black plastic very carefully with a heat gun so you can slip in on to the barb fitting. Fitting shown in lower left of picture below:

I do have the original black plastic line, so I will give this a try, sounds good. Thanks again! Will need to find an aftermarket gauge that fits (esthetically) with appropriate hose.
