97 E320 gas 104 has rhythmic vibration

I get a mild rhythmic vibration felt mostly in the steering wheel starting around 40 mph and up. I am thinking its coming from the driveshift maybe it has a little up and down play in the hanger bearing does this make sense? or should I be looking some where else.

If you are feeling it in the steering wheel, I would check front wheel bearings and front tires first. You might have a tire that is delaminating internally. Normally drive shaft vibrations are felt in the shifter and around the the tunnel.

KENT VIBRATION SOLVED. A VERY LONG STORY SHORT RADIAL RUNOUT ON TIRES. WHEN THE TIRE SHOPS SAY YOUR TIRES ARE WITHIN SPEC' ON THERE NEW HUNTER BALANCE MACHINE WITH ROAD FORCE YOU NEED TO TELL THEM B/S I WANT PERFECTLY ROUND TIRES ONLY PLEASE! I CANNOT BELEIVE HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND FOUR ROUND TIRES AND GOOD SERVICE THESE DAYS. ONE LAST VENT FOR ME I THOUGHT I BETTER CHECK TO SEE IF THEY CORRECTLY TORQUED WHEEL NUTS I FOUND THREE I NEEDED A BREAKER BAR AND A THREE FOOT CHEATER PIPE TO BREAK THEM LOSE UNBELEIVABLE.

83' 300D Sound

I have an 83' 300D that gets a "droaning" sound at about 40, increasing to about 60, then decreases and seems to be gone at 70. Does not matter if your under load, coasting, accelerating, etc. always same pattern. No vibration noted, though the sound tends to give you that perception. No vibration in steering wheel, no pulling. Just this low to mid range irritating sound like something from a sci-fi movie.

Possibilities

Suspect front or rear wheel bearing but DO NOT rule out the possibility of a bad tire or tires
