My 1985 300td wagon will not idle

My 1985 300td wagon will not idle. I cleaned all the lines, fuel filters, and even installed new injectors. I checked all the vacuum lines to the best of my ability. It is not starting as easily as it used to, takes some cranking. I turn the idle screw up so that it runs at high rpms so that I can crack the lines to see it fuel is getting to the cylinders. Everything seems to work fine, untill I start turning down the idle screw; then it stalls. I''ve tried ''everything'' but can''t seem to get it to start and idle as normal. Did a 'Fuel Point of Delivery' check as described in the Hayes Manual, but NO fuel came through. It spits out when I crank it, though. Help.

What about the dreaded tank screen? I blow air back to tank, with my lungs. It will improve flow for awhile.

timing?

I asked a MB mechanic and he told me how to check IP timing. Specs are 23-25 deg for cyl 1, but when i checked it was at 20 deg. with the IP turned all the way toward the engine.

Suspect timing chain stretch

Retarded injection pump timing as well as camshaft timing can be caused by a dangerously stretched timing chain. Both those combined can make it difficult for a diesel engine to idle properly. My Diesel Performance Tuning Manual will explain how to check for stretch and my timing chain kit will allow you to replace the chain yourself without taking the engine apart. CLICK HERE to read more.
