This piston is not new. The outer sealing ring has been replaced, and the shaft polished. It is in excellent condition. This will work on the 722.3 transmission, but NOT the 722.4 smaller transmission found in some 1985 to 1995 models. The piston diameters are different. Also, they made some modifications to beef up the 722.3 transmission for the Big V8 in the W140 chassis. That transmission does not require the upgrade, nor will it fit.

We are learning, as others are, that these parts are becoming a HIGH-priority preventive maintenance item for these old transmissions. A broken or binding B2 piston causes many shifting problems, and as Kent found on his 300E, it destroyed the transmission.
New B2 pistons are no longer being made. If you have the older style be to piston with the aluminum sleeve, the most important thing is to replace the sleeve with a nylon one which is included in this kit you do have to remove the seal in order to replace the sleeve, so both are included. It is the aluminum sleeve that binds on the piston that causes most of the problems with the B2.
The kit includes:
- Genuine B2 piston upgrade - newest version
- Genuine Nylon sleeve replacement
- Genuine piston seal (install flat face going in)
- CRP cover o-ring
- Lint-free cloth
- Blue nitrile gloves
The piston will come out easily by hand with no special tools. But the removal of the internal sleeve and seal will require some type of puller. A slide hammer is the quickest and easiest, as you do not need to remove the pan and the valve body.

722.3 B2 Piston Repair Kit
Since new B2 pistons are no longer being made, repairing your old one is your only option. The very early version with the narrow sealing ring on the outside of the piston is not repairable. You piston MUST have the wide ring as shown. Video installation instructions are included.
