Inspect for adjustment and tension. If you disconnect the cable from the throttle linkage and there is no spring back pressure then the cable is broken.
New o-ring seal installed.
These transmission pans get "out of shape" due to over-torquing the bolts. That crushes the stops (see below), and when that happens, it is very hard to get the pan seal not to leak. Your best option if you are doing a transmission service is to replace the pan.
This high pressure hose is a common leak area on the 126 gasoline V8 models. If you see oil drips just aft of your power steering pump it is probably this hose.
When pressure testing your KE-jetronic fuel injection, you may find you need a really thin wrench to install the small fitting on the right side bottom of the fuel distributor.
This accumulator was unique in the mid to late 1970s. It was used on all 6.9s but only some 450 V8 models. That is why you MUST know which type you have BEFORE ordering. You can clearly see the two threaded holes coming into the front of the accumulator housing.
Also works on 380SL and 560SL transmissions. Before you think you can easily remove the Bowden cable from the transmission, watch the video below.
As a safety preventative measure, replace this hose if it shows signs of hardening or cracking. This hose is under 90 psi; if it cracks and spews fuel, you can have an instant engine fire.
These transmissions are now 40+ years old, and with age comes hardened o-rings and seals, leading to what I call "pesky" leaks.
This Introduction manual is intended to familiarize technical personnel with the Registration year 1976 Passenger Cars. This covers changes and new developments, it does not cover all repair information on the included chassis. 87 Pages
This introduction into service for the year 1973 introduces the W 116 Models: 450 SE (116.032) & 450 SEL (116.033). Manual Contents: General Description of vehicle components, Assembly, inspection and adjusting procedures, Testing and Tuning Data, Maintenance instructions, tools and Equipment
Kent and others have seen valve cover leaks return within a few years after resealing. Some feel this may be a design flaw, but I contend the job was never done right in the first place. Let Kent explain why the leaks come back...
I know that many, including some coil-over sellers, recommend just leaving the original pump and hoses in place and plugging them where they attach to the four struts, but I can almost guarantee you will have problems in the future, either with a noisy failing pump, leaking hydraulics, or a possi
They can often be reused if you carefully cut the hardened rubber away from the coupling. If you prefer new here you go. Three are included here and that is the total used on your V6 or V8 engine up through 2006.
Depending on the age and mileage of your V6 or V8 engine, this part may or may not need to be changed when you replace the breather hoses. You can check before ordering. If the part is still soft and rubbery, then it most likely can be reused.
New left AND right side upper control arms. They will fit ALL W116 chassis from 1973 to 1980 ( except 6.9 ), and ALL W123 chassis sedans, coupes and wagons from 1977 to 1985.
This kit will allow you to properly fill any 722.9 7 speed automatic transmission as well as other cars that use the underfill method.
Anytime you need to replace your rear shocks/struts, you must drop the rear control arm. If you are doing other rear suspension work, you may need to drop it as well. Kent came up with this tool kit when he was converting his SL500 to conventional coil-over shock absorbers.
You must drive this star bit into the head of the damaged bolt with a hammer, but it will hold. The bolt will then need to be replaced. Watch the video below as Kent will explain how it works.
For mount kits and hardware, see related products below.
If you are restoring one of these classics I can almost guarantee you are going to need some parts from this!
I can now offer a unique digital meter and several attachments in a convenient carrying case that I can grab and go with anytime. Are you tired of fussing with your standard meter straight-tip probes? I think they are worthless.
When you need the torque, this will deliver.
This is a complete kit. Aftermarket new plastic breather tube with rubber attachment elbows, one new clamp, and a zip tie. You can see below how it installs on a turbo 300TD wagon. Watch the video for more specific details.
High quality fast break in pads with special coated anti-squeal pad bonded to the back side of the pad. We include 4 new sensor wires and a small ceramic brake pad grease to lube the pad edges and the pins. ( no need to lube the back side).
We know it is a surprise to many owners to discover there is a small thermostat inside the oil filter housing. Rather than write about it, watch the video below and Kent will explain the theory of operation and how to get it it.
Set of two new aluminum washers as shown.
Getting that oil pressure line off the bottom of the oil filter housing on the 1977 to 1985 240D, 300D, 300TD, 300CD, and W116 300SD is tough. If you break the line or damage the nut, this part is no longer available new.
Kent was a little skeptical when you first used this—it sounded like it would be too good to be true. The first use was getting some rusty bolts off the Garrett T3 turbine housing ( some of you know the pain there!). Well, it worked, and it worked very well.
This OEM thermostat from another engine fits perfectly in the OM617 diesel engine. It does require a special rubber seal, which we include here.
These WILL NOT work on your original injectors. They will ONLY work on our new replacements (see below) These plugs are a good alternatiive to the damaged originals on your D-Jetronic fuel injected engine IF you are installing our new injectors.
This is what you need as the final touch to get your later 450 engine to run smoothly. New OE Bosch cap, Bosch or Bremi rotor, and new Bremi wires. If you need spark plugs as well please order separately. See related products below
New tensioner as shown. No specific instructions are available but this can be installed from outside the engine once you get access the the hold down bolts.
I call this the hidden and forgotten bushing. Why? Because you can not see it to inspect it, it hardly ever gets changed. When these bushings wear out you will feel "weird" movement in your rear end, especially going over rough ground.
They started using 18 mm hardware after 1996. Most wrench kits use to not even have an 18mm combination wrench - let alone a long one ( measures 11 inches long).
To to prevent potential fluid weeping on the end of this pipe you might want to replace them if you end of removing the pipe in your procedure.
Since there are no dipsticks on these transmissions, the DIY way to check fluid level is from under the car with a touch-free thermometer to measure the heat of the transmission fluid BEFORE setting the correct level. Instructions are included with my full 722.9 transmission fill kit.
Very nice set with silicone copper core wires. See detailed pictures below. Two coil leads of different lengths included. Check before ordering as this fits these models from the early 1990s with dual distributors in the front of the engine. 400E. 400SE.
These are the best and only spark plugs you should put in your M119 engine. Hard to find. F 8DC4
Fits all V6 engines from 1998 to 2005. Kent feels these are the best. Outstanding quality.
Nice to have a few extra 13mm sockets around. This is the first tool that gets lost when working on old Mercedes. The tall shoulder inside helps to hold the nut or bolt in a position to make it easier to start the threads.
It is really frustrating when you doing a job on your Benz and find it needs a 16mm or 18mm tool and you don't have it. Most of the older sets of wrenches and sockets did not include these two sizes. Just before and after 2000 Mercedes started using more of these size nuts and bolts.
We love the quality of Bremi wires. Kent prefers them on his own cars. We even throw in some silicone grease and show you how to apply it.
Kent, as well as others, have seen valve cover leaks return within a few years after resealing. Some feel this may be a design flaw, but I contend the job was never done right in the first place. Let Kent explain why the leaks come back...
This easy-to-operated 2-gallon pressure pump tank will help you fill your 722.9 transmission with minimal mess and fuss. It includes over 5 feet of hose ( 30 inches which are clear so you can see the flow rate.
This unique tool is cut and welded right here in our shop to give you the box end depth you need to get the top motor mount bolt loose. A rubber handle serves as a grip, so you can use a pry bar to get extra torque on the bolt. Watch the YouTube video below for a full demonstration.
Many enthusiasts are now buying these 2004 to mid-2010 high-performance Mercedes with little thought to the transmission.
These seals getting totally neglected. I consider the bottom one the "forgotten" seal on these engines. They can be very frustrating to change out if you don't know the right sequence.
This very common wear part is easy to inspect and easy to replace if you know how to loosen the drive belt. You do not need to take the belt all the way off - just drop the top down.
