Dear Kent,
Attached is a photo of my 1984 Mercedes 300TD estate wagon that
I would be honored to see added to your photo gallery section. It's
about 31 years old and I've owned it for half of its life. We all know
how durable and reliable the 5 cylinder Mercedes diesel motor is. This
one had 130K miles on it when I bought it (which I knew was nothing for
this motor) and now has over 200k and still does not even burn any oil!
It originally came from Florida and is still completely rust-free and
retains about 80 percent of its original paint. There are still no
cracks in the dashboard nor interior wood-- which of course is unusual
for a Mercedes this old. Here in WV I keep it garaged and never drive
it in snow or rain. I've used it as my main transportation in the past
(it runs great), and have hauled all kinds of cargo both inside it and
strapped to the stout roof rack. This vehicle is nearly as practical as
a pickup truck! On its roof I have carried several huge sofas, 16 ft.
long lumber, boats, X-mas trees, drywall & plywood, furniture of all
kinds, etc. I even took it deer hunting a few times and slept in the
back of it-- and have hauled dead deer both inside it and on top of it!
But it 's now a semi-retired weekend cruiser/ garage queen. I plan on
keeping this car for the rest of my life (I am 59) and slowly upgrading
all the mechanical components-- as my budget allows-- doing most of the
work myself. Tending to and restoring an antique Mercedes is a great
hobby. My 2 Australian Sheperds also LOVE to ride in the back (seats
folded down) and hang their heads out the windows.
Kent, I have to say a big heartfelt THANK YOU to you and
everyone there at Mercedesscource for the great service you provide to
us owners of old Mercedes! Your mechanical instruction videos/manuals
are FANTASTIC!!!!! I can't praise you/them enough! Any person who
wants to get into the old car hobby and is considering what type car to
buy would be well advised to choose a Mercedes just because of the
incredible resource your company provides!
