Stalling problems 1990 420 sel gas

n/a I have a 1990 420 SEL with a gas v-8.The car stalled last night.Let it sit about 10 min and it started back up.Drove about 10 min and it died again.Wrecker brought to Mech shop.They went out this morning and it started up.They could not get it to stall.I picked it up and drove it about 10 min and it died.Anyone have any ideas what I should tell them

Something electrical does not like getting hot. When the engine stalls you need to immediately test for ignition spark. If no spark you could have failing ECU, coil or distributor cap/rotor. I have seen problems with all three. I have even seen bad spark plugs cause this type of problem. If you can not replicate the problem it is very hard to troubleshoot. Check condition of spark plugs and replace if worn. Look for any signs of corrosion on the distributor cap (especially on the pin from the coil) and replace if suspicious. Replace the wire going to the coil. Check to see if your ignition coil is getting hot. Could be a sign that it is shorting internally. ECU would be your last effort as it is a very expensive part. If you narrow it down to that component (left side inner fender well (flat black box) try banging lightly on it to see if you can get the engine to fire. Good luck. Kent Bergsma
