Euro 230ce maintenance parts and repair

Hello everyone! My first post and I want say that, I am enthused and on my way to Mercedes ownership, with some help.

I've been looking at purchasing a 1985 230ce with 101K (asking $5K) on the meter for about 6 months. I think they have the coolest classic look. It's not in the best shape but she runs strong and steady.

Would someone give me an opinion(s) on wheather or not this vehicle is known to be reliable and can I DIY the maintenance and repairs. Parts!!! The 230ce never pops up on any the domestic online car parts sites.

I understand this is reach, but I'm certain someone can tell me something +/- about the 230ce. If not, I may have to settle for a 240D?

I bought two euro 280E's for under $650 (total) they are in great shape and I've been able to get parts for it if I look hard enough... $5K sounds like an lot unless it's "perfect", but it doesn't sound like it is. It's best if you can get a parts car to go along with your driver but parts are out there "somewhere".

230CE is a little more challenging

The 230CE did not have a US counterpart so that is why it will not show up in any parts databases. Fairly rare car in the U.S. I has a 123 chassis coupe body, but it has the 4 cylinder 102 engine that was in the 190E 2.3 that was first produced in 1984. So your parts searches will need to be by CHASSIS and ENGINE#.

Before you purchase it, be sure to get a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic and have it checked over very closely for rust!
