Pulling DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the Check Engine Light

Using an inexpensive code reader or scan tool is not difficult

If your check engine light comes on you don't need to panic! The problem may be very minor and should not prevent you from driving the car until you can get it fixed. If you know how to use a simple OBDII code reader or scan tool you can put your mind at ease and sometimes save a few hundred or even a few thousand dollars!

If you own a 1996 or newer Mercedes and would like to save money in repair bills you MUST own and learn to operate an OBD2 scan tool. They are simple to use to pull the trouble code or codes ( DTC ) from your car's computer. Then you can use the Internet to learn what it all means (just enter the code number into a google search).  It is no more difficult than changing your own oil.
