86 420 SEL battery drain

n/a

My recently acquired Benz has a short somewhere that drains the battery so that the car will not turn over after several days of none use. Have removed negative cable and hooked volt meter. Detected a 12 volt drain when ignition switch is off. Do not know the amperage draw as meter does not register that value. Tried to isolate circuit by attaching volt meter between negative post and negative lead cable, then removing each fuse at the fuse box to detect drop in voltage. None observed. How can I proceed to determine where the problem lies. Don't know if this might help in the diagnosis, but The plug that connects the auxilary fan for the condenser has been unplugged and a jumper wire connected between two smaller gauge wires (brown in color, one with I think a green stripe). Being somewhat electrically challenged, I don't have a clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this car is a dream machine, and will enter my fleet (2) despite wifely objections. Just kidding, she loves the Benz. Just objects to the time I spend with them!!
