Automatic Transmission Fuel Leak

Hello, I am a new owner of a '87 W-124 Turbo Diesel Merceds...she is a beauty. Well, I drove her from another state after purchase and she drove excellent. But once we arrived home she started to shift a little rough. So I checked the oil and then the atf (while the car was warmed up). Well, the dip stick was very dry, not even a reading. So, I added some transmission fuel (Dexcron) and checked it again after a couple of hours and I finally had a reading on the dipstick. She sat in the garage for a couple of days and I noticed a "puddle ring" under the car. I got a white cloth and swiped the debris and it was red, the automatic transmission fuel. So, I now have discovered I have a leak. I am not sure how large or how severe, but it is leaking. It seemed like a fair amount but I have never encountered this problem before. I haven't driven it since and not sure the best advice is to handle this issue. Also, the manual says the atf resevoir holds like 7 quarts or something like that...I only added 1 1/2 qts. 7 seemed like so much. So, is my leak that bad? Ugggh. Any advice?
