Recoding a Becker Grand Prix?????

Hi All, I was working on a Heater motor problem and made the tragic mistake of unpluging the radio while attempting to pull the ACC unit. My MB Tech. Companion said my particular radio was equiped with an anti- theft device that scrambles the radio when unsuspecting dolts like myself disconect them. Has anybody got any advise as to how to restore the settings? Thanks Mike Waine

Getting the four digit code

Providing the radio has not been changed in the car, you can call your local Mercedes dealer to get the 4 digit code based on the vin number of your car. You may have to go in and prove ownership (ie title). Turn the radio on - when it indicates error - enter the four numbers into the number pad along the top edge and the radio should kick on for you....let us know if you have success. Kent

Ok Gang, I went to Barrier Motors in Bellevue Washington and they were able to reset my radio,(for free I might add) it was a bit more involved than programing in 4 numbers. They had to remove the face plate and dig deep to find the little gizmo that resets the radio....I got lucky that there was somebody on staff today that actually knows how use it. According to them the "Other Mercedes dealer" sends all radio problems of this type to Barrier. The younger Techs don't know how to use the gizmo and nearly sent me away. I have the Becker grand prix electronic with the display as wide as the tape deck, it displays little dashes that look like this -- -- -- -- in the display window when the anti theft has been tripped. I hope if anyone else has this problem that your dealer ship has the little gizmo and there will be an old hand on duty to help you out. Thanks Kent

Kent even if the radio has been changed, an MB dealer can punch up the code with the radios serial number not the VIN.
