AN IMAGE OF THIS PROBLEM IS AVAILABLE AT http://www.gosla.com/EBAYPICS/melted.jpg
My car has been sitting for several months now as I've done various work to its engine. The moment came to start the car and it wouldn't start. The horn wouldn't sound. Some lights worked. I believe the problem is that the battery went dead while it was off the road. It's an old battery anyway and I'm about to drop a new optima into it.
While trying to find out why it wouldn't start, I checked the fuse box. All aluminum fuses were corroded. I already have the new fuse kit that is sold here - just didn't get around to putting them in.
ANYWAY, when I was inspecting the fuse box, I found that the "C fuse", which should be for the electric aux fan had melted plastic around the top. The fuse itself WASN'T BLOWN, but when I touched it, it broke. I tried to pull it out with pliers, but only managed to break it in half.
How do I repair this problem??? Could I just grind off some of the melted plastic with a dremel? It seems that it was caused by the deteriorating fuses, which I assume increased resistance and caused the fuse to get hot enough to do this.
Any advice would be most appreciated...
