300sd engine swap...parts replacement recommendations?

I am changing the engine in my 82 300sd (due to low compression on one of
the cylinders/poor starting in ontario winters). I want to be sure I do
everything that should be done while the engine is out of the car.
I have ordered the front main seal and a bunch of other stuff.........but
I see no mention or guides available for the rear main seal. I'm not sure
if the engine being transplanted should have a new rear main seal, or if it is an easy job....... or not.

Anyone with any experience or info on this?

Here is the list of recommended repairs I use when installing a replacement used engine. My list is very thorough because many of these jobs are much more difficult to do when the engine is in the car. I would rather bite the bullet now and fix all the potential problems in 20 percent of the time. These old all cast iron diesels use rope style rear seals. Replacement is a big job requiring lower engine teardown and dropping the crankshaft. I only do this is there is evidence the rear main is leaking. Fortunately these rope style seals have proven to hold up well even on very high mileage engines.
