79 240d slow cold oil pressure

I've asked this before, so I guess this is an update. My 79 240d takes forever (5 to 10 seconds) to show oil pressure. Kent asked if I'd changed the tube o'rings in the oil cannister.I did, but thought maybe I should pull it out and double check and make sure they were good.
The o'rings were fine, but there was no oil in the cannister.Shouldn't there be oil in the cannister after the car sits for awhile?

What holds the oil in the cannister!?
Anyone know?

Possible check valve failure

It could be possible the check valves inside the oil filter housing are damaged or not seating properly. I have never had a problem with them and am not sure you can even get check valve replacement parts. You would have to remove the oil filter housing from the engine for a thorough inspection.

So if the filter housing is empty of oil it almost has to be something in that housing. I've got another engine with that on it so I guess I'll change it and see what happens. I'll let you know.

Well we changed the filter

Well we changed the filter housing this morn and sure enough we now have instant oil pressure.
We looked the housing over pretty good but can't see anything out of the ordinary. the two check valves look to be intact and functioning, but I suppose there could be a crack somewhere that we can't see.
