1982 300D bypassing over-boost solenoid

I have researched quite a bit and everyone seems to explain the purpose of this solenoid but not elaborate on it. I can't make a standing decision if it should be left on the car or removed. On two of our cars, we have it bypassed. We just have the alda running to the banjo bolt. How does this affect performance? If the overboost solenoid cuts fuel down to N/A amounts, will bypassing it cut the fuel permanently? What does this do?

AS I UNDERSTAND IT, the 'solenoid' you refer to is called a 'change-over valve'. It senses boost pressure and, as part of the intake manifold pressure compensation system known as ALDA on our cars, regulates the amount of fuel delivered to the engine. The valve's specific function is to close under high levels of boost--I'm not sure how high--and thus prevent the injection pump from overfueling the engine and creating dangerously high cylinder temperatures. If these temperatures get high enough, aluminum pistons can melt. In short, the change-over valve is there to protect your engine. I wouldn't disconnect it unless I had at least boost pressure and exhaust gas temperature gauges hooked up to monitor engine conditions.
