Excessive Oil Consumption 1981 300D

This is my third Merecedes, the first 2 had 200K+ at time of purchase and i ran the cars until the body was literally falling off on one and the suspension fell apart on the other. Both still had sound engines but everything else was worn out. My latest purchase has 162K miles, everything appears clean inside and out, body good shape, feels solid going down the road, etc. One problem : uses a quart of oil every 200 miles when going at interstate speeds. Considering the others engines had so many miles and still ran well i have a hard time giving up on this one. I adjusted the valves with no luck. I just did a compression check the first 4 cylinders had a first crank compression of 160-180 with the final compression being 320. The cylinder closest to the firewall has a final compression of 300 but the initial jump varies from 100 - 140 I was expecting to find the compression on one cyclinder to be much worse. any ideas? car starts fine, runs great, Has no oil leaks, but is blowing it by like crazy. I did the compression test with the engine cold.
