I am having a 'rough idle' issue I cannot seem to resolve; I will categorize as mild because I have worked on a two 240D (1980, 1981) and I was able to perform the recommended maintenance to have them idle very smoothly.
Additionally, hard initial start or it quits right after initial startup, then I am getting a blue smoke from the exhaust at the initial startup and for about 10 minutes before complete warmup.
Here is what I have done up to this point using the manuals, advice, and parts from mercedessource:
1. Replaced all filters; replaced diesel fuel in tank with fresh fuel
2. changed oil and ran two cans of diesel purge through the injectors directly as stated in your manual
3. valve adjustment using the special tools and replaced the valve cover gasket
4. compression test (all five cylinders averaged 320)
5. upgraded the injectors with monark nozzles (this was not difficult, however, time consuming to 'get it right' -- better to purchase the 5 rebuilt injectors if time and attention to detail are an obstacle) and replace the injector return lines; upgraded injector primer pump
6. cleaned Alda (very dirty)
7. tested tubo with your kit -- very good results -- within the range you prescribe in the manual during the hill test and the flat drive test at 4000 rpm
8. checked glow plug relay and glow plugs are new
9. new battery
10. new oil cooler lines
11. replaced radiator fluid and the thermostat
12. replaced fuses
13. checked the automatic transmission using your kit, adjusted transmission, shifts very well; replaced filter and fluid
14. replaced rear axles (easier and more cost effective than replacing the CV boots) and changed the rear differential fluid
15. replaced voltage regulator
16. recharged the AC
17. I have all new brake pads, brake lines, fluid, discs rotors, and sensor wires -- weekend project with my son
18. Ready to replace the fuel tank lines
I am asking for your advice on what I should try next to get the engine to idle a little smoother and to reduce the smoke at startup.
1. Rack damper bolt upgrade?
2. new injector hard fuel lines?
3. ?
