Installed new blower motor brushes today on my w126 '82 300sd -mine were worn down to nubs n(car has almost 400k on it) and I think the little brush springs had nothing to push against due to wear, Interestingly, I was able to operate blower with direct current from battery outside of the car on a vice but I think there was enough resistance in the car via internal wiring to prevent blower from operating. Car all cool -thanks Kent!
Update! Spoke too soon! I can energize blower direct from battery but under normal operations, it does not work though AC worked beautifully this morning for a short time and then would not operate again for the rest of the day after I turned off ignition. I tested both fuse and fuse panel, female lead at blower, replaced relay (temp swapped out -no response) and that leaves Clima which was replaced 3-4 years ago? Any guesses anyone? Help!
Update: I removed the fuse and used the Mercedes Aux fuse block with the 30amp
strip fuse as I had too much resistance apparently. This is a common problem for 126 cars -I am sure that Kent will have a kit for this soon as the repair is very worthwhile, particularly if you buy the blower brush kit and replace those worn out brushes! Blower now works great!
