1985 300D, 123, 4 door sedan - only a little over 100.0 k on it. Thought I would change the engine mounts - owned old Mercedes diesels for over 35 years. This car is new to me - put about 8.0 k on it.
What is with the engine mounts! It has been tough to get the inside Allen bolt loose - I was finally able to get loose the one on the passenger side but the drivers side is driving me nuts - too close a tolerance with the bracket that holds the engine shock damper and is also the main weight bearing member that fastens to the engine mount.
Also, I typically am able to get enough clearance to slip in new engine mounts by lifting the housing behind the engine with a hydraulic jack - it is giving the room I need to change the transmission mount but does not appear to give me the room I will need (if I ever get that last bolt loose from the engine mount on the drivers side) to remove the mounts. Will I need to purchase a floor jack with arms to lift the engine from the loops on the head?
The engine shocks seem to be in good shape - I am thankful for that as they are pricey but - since I am in that area - should I change them out anyway? Then comes the question of the rubber mounting hardware on the engine shocks !?. Thanks for your input Jim Cassidy in Dallas, TX
OK - I am new to the site - I found the information I need here already - just need to figure out how to get that tool and instructions......Quick! Purchased parts from you guys but did not check out the deal you had on the mounts.
