Alarm Problem

1985 300 D 123 Alarm Problem

This car has only a little over 100 k on it - it is in terrific shape but....the alarm system is a problem. The horn for the alarm system was located under the battery box - I removed the horn but I can hear the contacts switching (under the dash - near the foot break) and the truck will not open. I've had to open the truck lately with the emergency pull cord under the back seat - sure don't want to keep doing this. It used to be I would have the alarm system go off about once a month - I would simply lock the doors and reopen them and 90% of the time this would re-set the alarm system. It has not reset in the last week and I have finally taken off the cover on the drivers side and unplugged the box where the switching noise is coming from. Of course - the truck is still locked.

I want to just do away with this alarm system - it seems the only deterrant it offers is to sound a horn and lock the trunk - it is not worth the hassle to me. What other steps can I take?

Thanks, Jim Cassidy

Friends,

Problem Solved!

I got out my CD Manuel's for the car and found the Anti theft alarm system wiring. The rear latch on the truck is fed with a hot wire - the #4 position on the wiring plug for the alarm device is the ground that allows the lock to open. I simply used a jumper wire from a ground to #4 position on the plug and it opened. I will leave the anti theft component unplugged! I did not need to use the higher power of the lemon head - just used the challenge from Kent on U-Tube to clearly think through the issue - I was guessing it was a vacuum issue but the anti theft system is electric. When all else fails - read the instructions! Jim
