When you are out looking to buy an older Mercedes in this time period you have to be careful. You have heard that these old Benz (particularly the diesels) can go forever! So why is mileage that important. Because contrary to those "myths" they do not go forever without impeccable maintenance. Sadly that is rarely done and when the car hits 200,000 lots of things start to wear out. Granted the car will still run and drive but all those things that need repairing can turn the car into a money pit. Buyer beware. Know the actual mileage before buying.
Product Details
The best way to confirm actual mileage is by the service records. They often have been lost or don't exist. Never go by the odometer or just the word of the seller (unless you know his/her character and reputation). One way to get a general idea of the mileage is to inspect the rubber coated steering wheel (with models so equiped). In this video Kent walks you through the specifics and shows you examples from 4 cars ranging from just over 100,000 miles up past 400,000 miles. This little trick could save you thousands of dollars and countless headaches.
Related Repair Details NOT included: This is a diagnostic video only. No repair work is covered. Removing the steering wheel is NOT covered. See related videos below for additional resources.
