'76 300D intermittent odometer/jumpy speedometer ??

My odometer stopped working about a week ago for a day. It's worked 90% of the time over the past week, but there's a problem in there somewhere. Also, my speedometer is jumpy under 15mph. Not sure if the two are related. Took out the instrument cluster and noticed that one of the corners on the speedo cable is rounded. Could that be causing both problems? Also, any tips on how to test and see if the odometer gears are slipping? By the way - only 95k actual miles, so the odometer hasn't had that bad of a workout.

'77 300D Electrical Misbehavior

I've noticed some unusual noise in my Becker radio that I think is coming from the electrical system. It occurs when listening to an FM station as a sort of burping sound when at idle. An increased electrical load such as headlamps or a turn signal cause the sound to increase. Increasing the engine RPM causes the sound to stop. When listening to AM radio at idle, the sound is like a growl that rapidly turns into a screech as the engine is accelerated. Since this is a diesel engine, it can't be from an ignition circuit.

123 Wagon Rear Hatch Shocks

Kent, I recently purchased new rear hatch shocks from you for my 79 300TD. Are there instructions for changing these shocks? I was also wondering if there is a way to restore the tension on the shifter for an A/T? I am talking about the movement form left to right when the shifter is in the park position. I replaced the shifter bushings using your kit but the car comes out of park way too easily. Thank you, Gary

A/C blowing out of defroster on HOT days????

My 1990 350SDL is blowing the A/C out of the defroster on day when it's over 80-85 outside. If it's a little cooler, the A/C come out of the dash vents as it should. If the hot day cools down, the climate control will switch from defrost to dash. Is this a vacuum pod problem or a climate controle unit problem? Any guidance would be great. Thanks!

Radiator Neck Kit - 1988 560SL

I reviewed with interest the description of the radiator neck repair kit offered on this site. Not having had any problems - never gave it another thought. After an enjoyable cruise last evening along the Niagara River, before putting the 560SL away, I was checking the oil level and was shocked to see the smallest little bead of coolant at the base of the upper radiator neck. It was only about 1/32" but when I wiped it away, it slowly reappeared. Kent, is it too late for me or will your kit save my bacon? If not, can I assume you have a better replacement rad. available?

A/C problem below 1200RPM - '82 300TDT

I browsed the forum topics, but couldn’t find a way to search them, so please forgive me if this question is redundant. I just flushed my A/C system with Hecat Flush, replaced all o-rings (assembled with Nylog), replaced the compressor (used new seals), receiver/drier, expansion valve and the short hose that goes between the condenser & receiver/drier. I added the appropriate amount of oil upon assembly, and took it to the shop to have it charged with R12. The shop said it held vacuum well and that the compressor was working properly. The pressures for the R12 are according to spec.
