Very sluggish '77 240D

Recently purchased a '77 240D. The car is very sluggish (0-60 mph in about 30 minutes). Anyone have any tips on how to get a little more pep out of it?

A more realistic estimate for 0-60 would help us diagnose your problem, but these are pretty slow cars, and by pretty slow I mean really slow, that little 2.4 has a lot of car to move.

Check your main and pre-fuel filters, in tank strainer, and invest in a carbon reamer for the pre-chambers and run some diesel purge through it, or haul ass up some long hills to blow all the crap out of it.

Realistically? I seriously

Realistically? I seriously make sure there is plenty of space when pulling into traffic. If there is another car within 100 yards, I wait. I've never timed it but, I would say a 0-60 is about 15-20 seconds. I am assuming there is a Chilton's book or something that explains proper maintenance and trouble shooting for these vehicles. This is obviously my first diesel and have no clue on how to work on them. I am mechanically inclined, just not with diesel's.
