1975 240 d- 115 chassis - diesel fuel heating

I read somewhere recently that one or more very new diesel passenger cars have a system which applies heat to the fuel just before it enters the injectors,
and tests showed that it improved economy. Is anyone familiar with or know more about this? I would think it would be quite simple to fabricate something that attached to each metal fuel line, and provided a bit of heat through a resistance element -with an electrical connection that was wired to provide current only when the ignition was turned on. Any ideas or cautions? I'm not talking about heating fuel to prevent gelling in cold temperatures, more like, say, raising fuel temp from ambient air temperature to maybe 100 to 150 degrees farenheit.
