116 Idle Adjustment Cable for 1984 300SD

I am trying to retrofit an idle speed adjustment cable from a 116 300SD onto a 126 1984 300SD. (The 126 did not come with one.) Besides the obvious reason of variable idle speed control, the original tang that holds the idle adjustment screw on the side of the injector pump has broken off, thus making idle non-existent. The car in question has 363,000 miles and I really don't want to replace the injection pump just for the idle control. Currently, I'm controlling the idle with a long bolt attached to the throttle linkage, the end of which is resting on the side of the valve cover. This repair has actually worked for about 5 years now, but I would really like to try the cable.

I think that I can install it on the dash next to the headlight switch (where the headlight leveling adjustment is on euro models.)

I have been able to locate the appropriate cable, but I have been unable to find a bracket to hold the cable near the linkage at the top of the valve cover. Mercedes apparently no longer sells this item.

I have three questions. 1) Has anyone else tried to do this? 2) Will this work? 3) Does anyone have a source for the bracket?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
