I was taking care of a few things before my monarch nozzels, balancer, and trans cooler lines come. Here is what I did I bought a yellow top optima put it in heard pop okay? tried to start it no glow light no antenna. Smoke from the alternator (it's okay to laugh now more laughs later too!) the voltage reg. was hot and stayed hot so fried right? Pulled it out it was going to go anyway carbon stacks real low. the only thing down where the smoke was is the alt. Here is what happened if you look at the front of an optima the positive is on left neg. on the right "all" other batteries it's pos. on right neg. left laughing yet? details..Okay I put new + and - battery cables on (they were old) voltage reg. (bosch) and my new optima (12.76V) all terminals cleaned felts the whole nine!! turn the key no glow light didn't bother to start so I wouldn't fry new voltage reg. fuses look fine. I have reamed pre-chambers new glow plugs all new fuses (which renderd my oem radio locked)new80 amp glow fuse basically any wearable item i have replaced brakepads abs sensors rotors engine shocks propellar shafts suspension all bearings anything made out of rubber vac. lines all fluids tie rods drag links center links balljoints control arms but I CAN'T PUT IN AN OPTIMA BATTERY WITHOUT FRYING SOMETHING!! I do all my own work; self taught (I'm sure you can tell) I have no where else to go the benz dealer doesn't know 300SDL's or diesels as good as I do and my friends run gassers non benz. What am I missing here It's a 1986 300 SDL 603 6cly. with a rebuilt block(or so I was told) still has cross hatching in all the cylinder walls. Please help I would like to take this car for my date with a girl I met! Don't want to take 90' ford f-150 of mine (no back seat ha!!)
