Had minor vacuum problems (power locks don't work) but lately, trans shifting is slow. When engine is warm and reversing from parking, I need to rev the engine a bit before it shifts into Drive. Also, it takes a little longer to shift from 3rd to 4th with motor revving a little higher and a little longer.
I went to Kent's "Diesel Vacuum Source Troubleshooting and Repair" booklet and here's what I found. The booklet suggests the vacuum to the Injection Pump Shut Off Valve be tested. My car does not have one of those!
Another web blog refers to a Door Lock Check Valve that looks like a yellow dashpot with two outlets. My car does not have one of those!
However, mounted on the top, rear of the fuel injection pump is a white plastic housing of some kind. It has one empty outlet. The surface of the outlet where it would mate with a tube seems to be clean, as if it recently had a tube inserted in there. No other sign or indication as to where the tube from this outlet should connect.
Please help as I'm stuck as to what to do. I hate to start correcting other stuff...new dashpot, vacuum valves, rebuild pump, etc, and then learn that the problem was a missing valve, or hose, or connector, or something simple.
Will appreciate good advice.
