86SDL fuelscreen any tips?

I am going to change out the fuel tank screen+rubber hose. Any tips? I will be doing a compression test, injector balance+new nozzels, fuel filter change, diesel purge. just about in that order too anything I am missing any tips.

Noah, I don't know much about 1986s as I own a 1984, but this is just common sense stuff that would likely apply to all years. You are probably well aware of what I have to offer, but here goes anyway. Obviously if you are going to change the fuel screen and hose(s) at the tank you will want to run the fuel down as far as possible. That way you won't have to catch too much fuel when you disconnect the fuel line. If you don't know your car well or your fuel guage don't work or is not accurate have something ready that can hold 5 gallons or so. I ran my car down so that only a gallon and a half was left to drain into a pan. The other tip I have to offer is change your fuel filters after you do the purge.

86SDL has no fuel screen in tank?

I ordered a fuel screen (2 actually) the part # starts with 124......I know from experice if it doesn't say 126 it's not for my car. the bottom of the tank has two screw in fittings that the fuel hoses screw into but no fuel screen boss so do I just not have one? When ordering (benz dealer, online store)they both gave me the same one? For a 124

Yes your 300SDL does have a fuel tank screen. It is located directly behind the main fuel tank exit hose. The fuel tank exit hose fitting screws directly into the screen, which screws into the tank.
