Proper compression for 92 300D?

Hello everyone,
just wondered what proper compression is for a diesel. I have a 92 300D, and my shop recently did a cold compression test with the following numbers- #1-340, #2-330, #3-290, #4-320, #5-320.
He said that these were pretty good for a car w/ 270k- I just wondered what anyone else thought. The car seems to start fine, and runs well.

Ideally you want only a 10 percent difference between the cylinders, but if If the car starts and runs smoothly you can be thankful and just keep driving it.. Kent

Could you clarify please?

Kent, when you state "10% between cylinders" does that mean 10% of the highest compression reading? (34PSI) Lowest compression reading? (29PSI) Or do you add them all up and take an average and go from there? (32PSI) Little confused.

Clarification

10 percent differential between the highest reading and the lowest. In the case of the 92 300D mentioned above the highest is 340 and the lowest is 290. That is 50 pounds difference which translates into 14.7 percent. Less than 10 percent is ideal. Does not mean you need an overhaul if it exceeds it, but you may have difficulty getting the engine to idle smoothly if the differential is too great.
