300D Correct Tire Size

I am wondering if there is a certain size tire that works optimally on my 300D. It currently has 195/70/R14. My speedo is definitely not accurate, Could this be partly attributed to the wrong tire size.?

That is the same size on my 1976 300D and the speedometer is reasonably accurate. I am certain that this is the size that came on our Benz. I still have the original tire for the spare and its that size. When I was younger and we drove our "new" Benz on long trips I would clock the odometer (mileage numbers) with the mile markers along the way. Even when the car was new I remember calculating that the odometer was about 5% too fast and always thought the speedometer (the speed indicator) was probably 5% too fast. Now the odometer stops working about once a month. I was told by a local Mercedes expert to have the speedometer (the entire unit) rebuilt as they are a common problem in older Mercedes.

I think your current tires are recommended. Open your driver's door, and look in the door jamb, down by the bottom. I think there is a plate or sticker that has the recommended tires. I am thinking of going to a '205' width instead of '195' - just a dab wider...~Levon~
