81 300SD rear end rattle

My 300sd has a rattle coming from the rear of the car when you hit a bump.I realize it could be a few different things but what would be the most likely? The sway bar links aren`t broken but one of them looks to be slightly damaged. Thank`s Rick

Hi Rick, Sway bar links are the number one culprit. They can look ok but the ball socket can be worn out. Bad shock absorbers can also make clunking noises. Kent

I have the same issue with my '83 300SD. I replaced the rear sway bar links, but that did not help. Shocks are next.
