w115 Engine swap

Quick Question - Can I remove the engine(dead motor) from a '75 W115 300D and replace with a long block turbo OM617 (will not be using turbo set up-just long block minus turbo) and then swap over all the W115 specifics, oil filter housing, IP,manifolds etc,motor mount arms, etc. Easy or is there something I am forgetting? Thanks!

Not a practical swap

You do not have interchangeable mounting points for the power steering pump and the oil filter housing. Those parts can not be swapped and they will be in the way when trying to install a later 617 engine.

Thanks Kent, I would think that if I have all the brackets/etc from the original motor that it would be a piece of cake to refit to new engine which is also a OM617 engine but if you say so, I bow to your experience - so I guess I am stuck trying to find a running engine for a '75 300D W115 car -

Its not about the brackets

The problem is the block casting itself. They are very different. The needed oil passages and bolt holes are just not there to make the swaps needed. I have a very good factory reman 1975 300D engine with only about 60K on it. But will not ship. Pickup only.....
