1980 300D - Moving to the "Rust Belt"?

My family is preparing to move to Delaware from Oklahoma. As I understand it, Delaware is in the "Rust Belt." I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to prevent rust problems before they happen. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I think you'll get the regular responses but one thing this guy in DC did that I might try is to spray the underside of his car with WD40 every fall. It's an interesting idea and he swears it worked for him but I haven't tried it. WD stands for water displacement so without water no rust but he was thinking that salt could not stick. I just thought it was interesting.
